The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and Build With Strength initiative have aligned with a global consortium of concrete and cement trade associations or organizations committing to a net-zero carbon dioxide emissions industry by 2050. Their action dovetails release of Global Cement and Concrete Association’s (GCCA) 2050 Cement & Concrete Industry Roadmap for Net Zero and Portland Cement Association’s Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality.
Based in London, GCCA represents the parent companies of most of the top cement and ready mixed producers in North America and a membership embodying 80 percent of the world’s cement production capacity outside China. Its roadmap marks the biggest worldwide commitment by an industry to attain net-zero CO2 emissions over the next 30 years.
“NRMCA stands with the GCCA and Portland Cement Association,” says President Michael Philipps. “We have a responsibility as an industry to address our impact on the environment and this type of collaboration with key stakeholders and policymakers brings us even closer to achieving our goals.”
Ready mixed producers and Build With Strength stakeholders are poised for multiple deliverables in the five main areas of CO2 reduction or optimization opportunity that PCA embraces: Clinker, Cement, Concrete, Construction, Carbonation. PCA, GCCA and allied interests the world over will abide roadmap goals and timelines under the GCCA’s Concrete Future banner.
“The roadmap creates a sense of commitment and transparency to deliver innovation around reducing carbon impacts of concrete for the betterment of society at large,” Philipps affirms. “We have a real opportunity to make a global impact and look forward to continued collaboration with industry leaders on environmental issues.”
